Performance of Numerically Optimized Tuned Mass Damper with Inerter (TMDI)

In recent years, the Tuned Mass Damper with inerter (TMDI) has received significant attention. The is defined to exert a force that in proportion relative acceleration of two terminals. Here, TMDI topologies are investigated. conventional topology given by being parallel spring and viscous damper TMDI. other serial arrangement spring, stiffness mass oscillator While first intends increase inertial TMDI, second aims at producing an additional degree freedom. considered concepts simulated for harmonic random excitations, parameters set according those described literature numerically optimized which minimize primary structure displacement response. classical TMD used as benchmark. findings twofold. typical inertance ratio 1% very small value 0.02% performs significantly worse than same ratio. contrast, freedom can improve mitigation if optimized.
